Kanchanaburi lies inland from Hua Hin, and this full-day trip takes you there to cross the Bridge over the River Kwai on foot and follow the story of the WWII Death Railway. During the day you stop at the JEATH War Museum and the Allied War Cemetery, take a longtail boat along a quiet part of the river and ride a stretch of the original railway line. It is a long day, but it brings history, river scenery and Thai culture together in one outing.
Pickup from your hotel or villa is at around 07:00 and you are back at about 19:30. Entry fees, the boat cruise, the train ticket, a riverside lunch and an English-speaking guide are all included. The train section crosses the Wang Pho viaduct and depends on the railway timetable. If you would rather not make the round trip in one day, the overnight packages cover the same history with a night beside the river.
